Information For
employers

Employers in Northern Ireland are required to ensure that every teacher, including peripatetic teachers, employed as a teacher in a grant–aided (publically funded) school in Northern Ireland is GTCNI registered.

It is the responsibility of the employer or employing an authority to check a teacher is registered before they take up employment. An employer can check if a teacher is registered via Search the Register .

Employers are also required by law to notify GTCNI if a teacher in their employment is dismissed on the grounds of misconduct. For more information, go to the Employers & Regulation page.

It is also the responsibility of the school employer and Teacher Tutor to submit a copy of the letter confirming successful completion of a newly qualified teacher’s Induction and EPD to GTCNI, via the School Portal.
