Employers in Northern Ireland are required to ensure that every teacher, including peripatetic teachers, employed as a teacher in a grant–aided (publically funded) school in Northern Ireland is GTCNI registered.
It is the responsibility of the employer or employing an authority to check a teacher is registered before they take up employment. An employer can do this by making a request to check the registration status of a teacher.
Employers are also required by law to notify GTCNI if a teacher in their employment is dismissed on the grounds of misconduct. For more information, go to the Employers & Regulation page.
It is also the responsibility of the school employer and Teacher Tutor to send a copy of the letter confirming the successful completion of a newly qualified teacher’s Induction to GTCNI. They should post a copy of the letter to:
