Induction & EPD

Induction and EPD play a crucial role in the professional formation of teachers in Northern Ireland.

All newly qualified teachers are required to complete Induction and Early Professional Development (EPD). It is the responsibility of your School and Teacher Tutor to update this via GTCNI School Portal and Teacher Portal, confirming the successful completion of Induction and EPD.

Records for teachers, who completed Induction prior to September 2009, are held by the Teachers’ Salaries and Administration Branch of the Department of Education:

Support for Induction & EPD

The Education Authority (EA) is the lead partner providing support for Induction in conjunction with the school. At EPD the school is the lead partner.

The EA Early Career Teacher programme provides a range of support for teachers completing their Induction. In addition there are Teaching and Professional Learning opportunities for teachers completing EPD, where support is led by the school for EPD Year 1 and EPD Year 2.

The EA website provides more information for Early Career Teachers and the EA Early Career Teacher Team can be contacted by email: iepd@eani.org.uk.
