Employers are stakeholders and it is important that they understand their role in working with GTCNI to support teacher professionalism.

Employers in Northern Ireland are required to ensure that every teachers, including peripatetic teachers, employed as a teacher in a grant–aided (publically funded) school in Northern Ireland is GTCNI registered. 

It is the responsibility of the employer or employing authority to check a teacher is registered before they take up employment. An employer can do this by making a request to check the registration status of a teacher.

Employers are also required by law to notify GTCNI if a teacher in their employment is dismissed on the grounds of misconduct or would have been had they not resigned. For more information go to the Employers & Regulation page.
