Access Application
Forms

The new GTCNI registration system is live.

You can submit an application form as a new applicant on the Teachers' Portal

Please note if you do not intend to be employed as a teacher in Northern Ireland until after 1st April 2024 you should wait to submit your application to GTCNI until 15th March 2024. This will prevent you from paying your £44 application fee in the 2023/24 registration year, and then a subsequent fee in the 2024/25 registration year.

NI Graduates

There are four Higher Education Institutions in Northern Ireland that provide Initial Teacher Education (ITE) programmes which are accredited by GTCNI:

  • Queens University Belfast;

  • Ulster University;

  • St Mary’s University College; and

  • Stranmillis University College.

If you are studying an ITE programme at one of these accredited providers, our Registration Team will be out to meet you to provide an overview of the registration process. You will be contacted by your university in 2024 with details on how to apply and pay the £44 registration fee.

You should make sure you apply well in advance of taking up any teaching post because you must be registered when you start in your new job and at peak times processing your application form may take considerably longer than normal.

Please note that the GTCNI application process consists of the following stages:

Documentation Check
Checking the documentation an applicant has submitted. We will advise if we have any queries or anything further is required

Suitability checks
Ensuring an applicant is not restricted or barred in any other UK jurisdiction. We expect this stage to take a few weeks.

Assessment of Qualifications
Assessing an applicant’s qualifications for equivalency.

Cross Check
A final cross check before decision. We will contact applicants once there has been an outcome to their application.
